Kathmandu, Sept 22: Newly-appointed Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel said the government shall lay its focus on holding the elections on the stated date of March 5 next year, curbing corruption and expediting reconstruction.
After assuming the office at the ministry in Singha Durbar today, he said the interim government would work in a way to make the people feel change. Noting that the incumbent government has stood on the foundation of the sacrifice of the Gen z protests, he pledged to work in a way to maintain good governance, prepare ground for corruption control and make the people feel change as per the mandate of the Gen z and the people.
“The mandate from the Gen z and the people are not big but complex and challenging”, he said, adding, “Mere physical reconstruction is not adequate. It is not easy to put ointment on the wounds inflicted in the mind of the people. The scars are still afresh. Its mending is not an easy job. So, the government and we all should reach out to the homes of the people in the far-flung areas”.
Minister Kharel further said making people feel the good governance, economic prosperity, employment, education and health among other fundamental rights will only give people some respite.
Saying that he would not interfere with the performance of the ministry employees, he asked them to work freely for effective performance.
The minister anticipated support and collaboration from all sides to carry out result-oriented works during the short term of the interim government.
“We have to revitalize the lives of the people and rebuild the heritages. There would be no sea change in six months. However, some foundations for hope and optimism shall be build. I expect the experience of all employees of the ministry and cooperation from other experts for this”.
Minister Kharel expressed the commitment to focus his work aligning with the artificial intelligence policy and digital framework.
