Kathmandu, Dec 27: The Election Commission (EC) has determined the categories of individuals to be included in the temporary voter roll for the upcoming March 5 House of Representative (HoR) elections.

Employees of the Nepal government, provincial and local governments, as well as institutions owned or controlled by the federal or provincial governments who are listed in the final voter roll will be included as temporary voters.

The Commission informed that members of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police stationed in barracks, prisoners in jails, and staff and security personnel deployed for election related duties will also be temporary voters.

Individuals residing in old age homes operated by the Nepal government, provincial or local governments, or operated with their approval, as well as chiefs and officials of constitutional bodies, will also be temporary voters.
There is an arrangement where an Election Commissioner will be designated to review the temporary voter register in coordination with its dedicated committee.

According to the EC, the committee will comprise secretaries from the Election Commission, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration as members.

All joint secretaries of the divisions at Election Commission and senior computer officers of the Commission will also serve as its members.

At the district level, there will be a committee comprising Chief District Officer as the coordinator and the chiefs of local security agencies and the district prison chief as members. The returning officer of the concerned district will serve as the member secretary.

As per the existing provisions for compiling temporary voter list, details employees will be requested from the concerned agencies and subsequently sent them to the respective election office along with electronic copy.
