Kathmandu, Sept 14: The newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed one and all to work with determination to end corruption, ensure good governance, and provide economic equality in line with the aspirations of the youth.

Issuing directives to the bureaucrats after assuming office in Singha Durbar today, PM Karki instructed the senior officials that she has come not to enjoy the position but to serve according to the aspirations of the youth, clarifying that her intention is to hand over responsibilities to a new parliament within six months.

“You are well aware of the circumstances under which the interim government was formed. There has been significant loss of life and property. We have reached a void as the evidence and records of the main bodies have been destroyed.

The vehicles provided to the security forces have been burned. There has been murder and violence. Essential bodies have been selectively attacked. Its investigation is yet to be completed,” PM Karki said.

She further said, “If this work has been done being a Nepali, it should have been shameful. This incident has happened for the first time in Nepal. Our main buildings have been defaced. It seems like this conspiracy has been planned. The guilty must be brought to justice through investigation.”

Prime Minister Karki stated that compensation and reconstruction work must be carried out using the resources available in the country, emphasising the need to face this brutal act against the nation unitedly, heeding the call of the people.

“Yesterday, when I went to Maharajganj, the businessmen there said that they would take responsibility for rebuilding a burned police post there; I thanked them. Let’s all unite like this. Let’s not criticise each other. Please support me,” the PM said.

The Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal stated that there is a challenge to restore the damaged government structures and ensure the continuity of services.

Stating that there has been damage to government offices and security agency buildings across all districts, he pointed out the need to allocate a budget for reconstruction based on priorities.

Karki, who was appointed as the Prime Minister of the interim government on September 12 following the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9, has assumed office today in the building constructed for the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar.
